What Is Telegram Premium?
Telegram Premium is a paid subscription that unlocks exclusive features on top of the free Telegram experience. Launched globally, it adds capabilities that power users and content consumers will appreciate — from larger file uploads to ad-free browsing. In Ethiopia, where Telegram is practically the default messaging app, Premium has some particularly relevant benefits.
The Key Features You Get
Telegram Premium includes: 4GB file upload limit (up from 2GB), faster download speeds, no ads in public channels, exclusive stickers and reactions, premium app icons, animated profile pictures, advanced chat management with folders, auto-translate for messages in other languages, longer bios, and priority support. You also get a star badge next to your name that shows your Premium status.
Is It Worth 550 Birr Per Month?
This depends entirely on how you use Telegram. If you're a casual user who only texts friends, probably not — free Telegram already does that well. But if you're in dozens of Ethiopian channels and groups, the ad-free experience alone is worth it — public channels in Ethiopia are increasingly filled with ads. If you regularly share large files for work or school, the 4GB limit is a significant upgrade. And if you use Telegram as your primary social media (as many Ethiopians do), Premium makes the experience noticeably smoother.
The Download Speed Advantage
Ethiopian internet speeds can be slow, so Telegram Premium's faster downloads are particularly valuable here. Premium users get priority download speeds, meaning your files, media, and voice messages load faster even on congested networks. If you frequently download videos, documents, or large images from channels, this feature alone can save you meaningful time over a month.
Auto-Translate for Multilingual Groups
Ethiopia has a diverse linguistic landscape, and many Telegram groups have messages in Amharic, Oromiffa, English, and other languages. Premium's auto-translate feature lets you tap any message to see an instant translation. This is particularly useful in business groups, educational channels, or international communities where you might not speak every language used.
How to Get Telegram Premium in Ethiopia
Buying Telegram Premium through the app requires an international payment method, which most Ethiopian users don't have. That's where Ethio Gamer Top Up comes in — buy Premium through our bot with your regular Ethiopian bank (CBE, Telebirr, Awash, eBirr, M-Pesa, or BoA). We activate it directly on your account. Plans available: 1 month (550 Birr), 3 months (1,500 Birr), 6 months (2,800 Birr), and 12 months (5,200 Birr). The yearly plan offers the best per-month value.
Our Verdict
For heavy Telegram users in Ethiopia — and that's a large portion of the population — Premium is a solid upgrade at 550 Birr per month. The ad-free experience, faster downloads, and 4GB uploads address real pain points. If you're on the fence, try the 1-month plan first and see if the features make a difference in your daily use. You can always gift it to someone else if it's not for you.
